The RISE 8K

The RISE 8K is a highlight in the running calendar for women across Brighton and Hove.

This year was no exception, and with so many Brighton and Hove Women’s Running Club (BHWRC) members signed up as volunteer marshals and runners to support the event, we were all looking forward to a wonderful celebration of running for a worthy cause with women in the running community.

When the race turned to a virtual event, we were disappointed that we weren’t all going to meet together for the first race in months, but BHWRC were not deterred.

Our Club Captain set up a fundraising page, raising £590 from generous members, family and friends.

Throughout the week when we could run the RISE 8K, run leaders organised small groups to join them on an 8K around Brighton and Hove, while other runners ran solo or inspired other people to join them.

We hope that next year we will be able to reunite with everyone on the start line in 2021, but there is no doubt 2020 will be a memorable RISE 8K.

Well done to all the runners of BHWRC for rising to the challenge, showing your commitment to complete the race, albeit virtually and enjoy the company of other runners to raise money for such an important charity.

We look forward to seeing everyone’s medals in the coming weeks – keep an eye on Instagram.

About RISE:

R.I.S.E stands for Refuge, Information, Support and Education.

RISE helps those affected by domestic abuse and works alongside survivors by giving practical support to help them rebuild safer lives. This can only be achieved through the money raised at its events, including the RISE 8K and Heroes Run.

Every year RISE supports over 1,800 women and their families to recover and reclaim their lives. RISE offers practical help ranging from direct advice, therapy and group support, to refuge space to those in urgent need.
