Get ready to (re)start running this autumn

We’re delighted to announce TWO running courses for this autumn.

When: Starting October 14
Where: Brighton and Hove

Beginners Course
Our Beginners Course is designed for those wanting to run and starting from the beginning, or those who have run but some time ago.

Running with a group can gave give you motivation, it’s social, meet new people with a common goal, have fun, and get out in the open air.

You may also visit parts of Brighton & Hove you have not been to before. The course follows an approved training plan (England Athletics), which has been used by our club for many years with great success.

The 10 week course costs £35.00.

Please register for the first session even if you cannot attend, so we can process the payment.

We look forward to meeting and running with you.

Return to Run
Our Return to Run is a walk/run programme designed to ease runners back into running after a break.

If you haven’t been running recently but want a friendly and supportive course to help you get back and enjoying running, this course is for you!

The RISE 8K is a highlight in the running calendar for women across Brighton and Hove.

This year was no exception, and with so many Brighton and Hove Women’s Running Club (BHWRC) members signed up as volunteer marshals and runners to support the event, we were all looking forward to a wonderful celebration of running for a worthy cause with women in the running community.

When the race turned to a virtual event, we were disappointed that we weren’t all going to meet together for the first race in months, but BHWRC were not deterred.

Our Club Captain set up a fundraising page, raising £590 from generous members, family and friends.

Throughout the week when we could run the RISE 8K, run leaders organised small groups to join them on an 8K around Brighton and Hove, while other runners ran solo or inspired other people to join them.

We hope that next year we will be able to reunite with everyone on the start line in 2021, but there is no doubt 2020 will be a memorable RISE 8K.

Well done to all the runners of BHWRC for rising to the challenge, showing your commitment to complete the race, albeit virtually and enjoy the company of other runners to raise money for such an important charity.

We look forward to seeing everyone’s medals in the coming weeks – keep an eye on Instagram.

About RISE:

R.I.S.E stands for Refuge, Information, Support and Education.

RISE helps those affected by domestic abuse and works alongside survivors by giving practical support to help them rebuild safer lives. This can only be achieved through the money raised at its events, including the RISE 8K and Heroes Run.

Every year RISE supports over 1,800 women and their families to recover and reclaim their lives. RISE offers practical help ranging from direct advice, therapy and group support, to refuge space to those in urgent need.

Needing some motivation for running in December? Or need an extra incentive to escape the Christmas pressures and get out running?

Than this virtual running challange might be just right for you, its from 1st Dec – 25th Dec, you choose your distance, uploaded your runs to the link, and you will get a lovely medal in the post.

And 50% of the profits go to Mind Charity, you can also buddy up and complete it with others and you do not have to run everyday.

Run Up To Christmas

October has seem some super human efforts from our amazing club members, representing BHWRC locally and across the country! We’ve seen members old and new taking part in Rise 8K, raising funds and awareness for a very important local charity. A massive well done to our Beginner graduates who took part in what was for many their first race since completing the course earlier this year.

Also in October:
Beach Head 10K and marathon
Great South Run
West Sussex Fun Run League fixtures
An ultra marathon (phew)
Hove Prom 10K
Oxford Half Marathon
Royal Parks half marathon
And much, much more…including the usual weekly club runs and training.

A reminder too that now the clocks have changed and the evenings are much darker, make sure you wear reflective or high viz clothing and lights. Members are also asked to have ICE details (in case of emergency) with them at all times. These can be made or purchased quite cheaply. Speak to our club captains Maggie or George if you’d like more details.

Happy running!
