When do we meet?

Every Thursday. Runs start at 7.00pm so we suggest you arrive a bit earlier than this. If you are new, please introduce yourself to a club member (we’re a friendly bunch!) and they can point you in the direction of one of the committee members. If you'd like to try us out before joining, please email secretary@bhwrc.org to let us know you are coming and we can look out for you!

Where is the Hove Rugby Club?

At Hove Recreation Ground which is on the corner of Old Shoreham Road and Shirley Drive. Post code: BN3 6NQ.

Is my level of running good enough to be able to join the club?

In order to be able to complete the shorter run (3-4 miles) you should be able to run for about 20-30 minutes. To complete the longer run (5-6 miles) you should be able to run for about 45-50 minutes.

Run leaders stop occasionally to allow people to catch up and make sure no one is left behind. We also have back markers on the runs.

What runs does the club offer?

There are two runs each Thursday: one of 3-4 miles and one of 5-6.

First Thursday of the month - The Loop! We have a simple 4.2 mile loop around the streets of Hove. The idea behind this is for runners of all abilities to judge how they are improving. There are opportunities to cut off at an earlier point if you do not want to do the whole route.

Summer Loop: in the summer we have our ‘summer loop’ which follows the same format but includes some off-road terrain.

During the summer months our Thursday long runs may start from a different location to enable us to take advantage of the beautiful Sussex countryside.

Other Thursdays will include a training session led by our Leaders in Running Fitness (LiRFS) or Coaches in place of the usual run.

We also offer a Sunday club run which is usually a longer off-road run.

A weekly member’s email and Facebook group post will provide run and route details.

Members often organise their own non-club runs on other days, details of which are posted into the Facebook group.

Monthly Club Calendar

1st Thursday: The Loop (see section above for details). Starts from Hove Rugby Club at 7pm. Club Committee meets monthly after The Loop.

2nd Thursday: Short run (3-4 miles) from Hove Rugby Club. Long run (5-6 miles) from Hove Rugby Club in Winter and various start locations during the Summer. Start time 7pm. (See section above for details of Summer long runs).

3rd Thursday: Club training night led by one of our LiRFs or CiRFs. Start at Hove Rugby Club. Start time 7pm.

4th/5th Thursday: Short run (3-4 miles) from Hove Rugby Club. Long run (5-6 miles) from Hove Rugby Club in Winter and various start locations during the Summer. Start time 7pm. (See section above for details of Summer long runs).

Sunday morning runs: These are longer (5-6 miles) off-road runs starting at various locations and start times. Details are posted on our member's Facebook page and weekly member's email.

Monday night training: Led by one of our Coaches, a variety of training sessions are offered aimed at helping us improve our speed, form and endurance. Details are posted on on our member's Facebook page and weekly member's email.

Other informal (sometimes impromptu) runs: These are organised amongst club members and details posted on our member's Facebook page.

Are you an affiliated club?

Yes. We are affiliated to England Athletics and membership includes a United Kingdom Athletics (UKA) competition licence which entitles you discounts on most races within the UK.

We are allocated club places at a number of local races; become a member and you could be eligible for the race place ballot!
